Caribou's Dan Snaith is about as versatile a musician as they come. "Ye Ye" is a track off Jialong, released October 9th on Merge Records under Snaith's newest musical project Daphni. The new name lets the listener know to expect something different from his previous works, and on that promise Jialong delivers. All in all, the project combines Snaith's technical ability with some of the more root elements of dance music. Each track has its own distinctive feel, but the differences are subtle. In particular, "Ye Ye" with it's hypnotic melodies, repetitious vocals, and dark-driving bass get your head bobbing right from the start, and demonstrate why many have praised this work as Snaith's "antidote to bad EDM." You can check out the entire album here.

The enigmatic psychill producer Rain, aka Phutureprimitive has just released his remix of the classic song "Teardrop" by Massive Attack. This past spring, Phutureprimitive opened for Shpongle, and I had the pleasure of seeing him live, first at Toad's Place in Hartford, CT and then again at the House of Blues in Boston, MA, and boy did he deliver. This song, as well as his remix of "Mad World" by Gary Jules accentuated the set, which focused mainly on tracks from his most recent album Kinetik. His first album Sub Conscious was released in 2004, and was followed by his three-track Luminous EP in 2010. Massive Attack - "Teardrop" (Phutureprimitive Remix)
After recent performances at Bella Terra Festival in Stephentown, NY and Rootwire Festival in Logan, OH, Phutureprimitive will be heading back on tour with Shpongle starting at the Canopy Club in Urbana, IL on September 21st, and finishing up with a Halloween show at Terminal West in Atlanta, GA.

Drawing influence from all over the world, their instrumental style is varied, allowing them to transition seamlessly from downtempo tunes into high energy dance tracks. The energy behind their music is enhanced only by the spectacular belly dancing performances from the groups co-founder, Zoe Jakes.

Niki & The Dove is the project of a Swedish duo featuring vocalist and songwriter Malin Dahlström. The group released their first single in August, 2010, and have had several releases since including their most popular, "Mother Protect." This particular remix, comes from Josh Legg, the Los Angeles based producer and DJ, also known as Goldroom. Formerly of the synthpop trio NightWaves, Legg has ventured out, exploring dance music from a different angle, and drawing more influence from a wider range of artists. I first heard Goldroom's remix of Gigamesh's track "Red Light," as the opening of The Magician's monthly Magic Tape Sixteen, and the remix of Mother Protect was featured in this month's Magic Tape as well (maybe we'll see a collaboration between these two artists somewhere down the line), though Goldroom has many great original tracks, in addition to the many remixes he's already done. Enjoy!
I am an avid, dance music enthusiast. While I spend a good portion of my days looking for new music, the purpose of this blog is to share whatever song is being replayed constantly in my library, whether it is new, or a classic.
