The 21-year-old, Detroit native, Grant Kwiecinski aka GRiZ has just released "Smash The Funk," the first single from his upcoming album Mad Liberation, which will be available Tuesday, September 4th. GRiZ has really taken off this past year, with a number of well-received remixes and singles, numerous performances throughout the summer festival circuit (including an incredible surprise collaborative performance with Gramatik and Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic at Electric Forest).  Following the release of his Freshman album, GRiZ will be heading on the road, supporting BassNectar for select dates of his Fall 2012 Tour.

Song Of The Day: Beats Antique - Skeleton Key

The tribal fusion electronic wonder known as Beats Antique have just released "Skeleton Key," the first free single off their upcoming album Contraption Vol. 2 which will be available September 18th. The brainchild of tribal belly dancer Zoe Jakes, and co-producers Sidecar Tommy and David Satori has been a welcome and refreshing addition to many summer festival lineups over the past years as this group has grown both creatively and in popularity.

Drawing influence from all over the world, their instrumental style is varied, allowing them to transition seamlessly from downtempo tunes into high energy dance tracks. The energy behind their music is enhanced only by the spectacular belly dancing performances from the groups co-founder, Zoe Jakes.

After a stellar performance at Red Rocks, opening for Thievery Corporation, and having performed at numerous festivals this Summer, Beats Antique is showing no signs of slowing down, with a performance at the North Coast Music Festival this Saturday, September 1st in Chicago and then kicking off their Fall North American Tour. Most interesting, perhaps, is that the group will be headlining the Great Convergence in Giza, Egypt during the Winter Solstice from December 20th-22nd alongside such artists as Random Rab, Bluetech and Govinda.

Fall Tour Announcement: The Magician

The Belgian nu-disco sensation the Magician has recently announced a brief fall tour hitting four major U.S. cities. Beginning with a Halloween show in Miami at the Electric Pickle, The Magician will then be heading to Voyeur in Philadelphia, PA on November 1st, The Mid in Chicago, IL on November 2nd, and finally (le) poisson rouge in New York, NY on Saturday, November 3rd. This tour is highly anticipated as the Magician cancelled the last leg of his Summer tour in New York City for an undisclosed emergency. Peter (Yuksek) & The Magician's recent EP Memory took off this past summer. And who can forget The Magician's chart-topping 2011 remix of Lykke Li's "I Follow Rivers."

Peter & The Magician - "Memory" (Original Mix)

Lykke Li - "I Follow Rivers" (The Magician Remix)

Having not seen The Magician perform since last Halloween at the Public Assembly, and having missed his cancelled performance this past summer, I am certainly looking forward to seeing him again this Fall at (le) poisson rouge. Tickets for that show are available here.

The group's live, instrumental style accentuated by psychedelic overtones is well-suited for adapting some of these classic tunes for modern day listeners. Nadis Warriors have been touring heavily this summer, having performed at such festivals as Camp Bisco XI, and Electric Forest. They are currently touring the midwest, and will be performing this Fall in Philadelphia at the inaugural City Bisco on October 6th alongside the Disco Biscuits, Diplo, RJD2, A-Trak, Paper Diamond and Tipper. Below, you can stream a few tracks from Illumating Inspirations Vol. 1:

Jim Morrison Predicted Music Today

It's quite eerie that he was so accurately able to predict the state of music today, although perhaps to someone as engrained in the music of his generation, it was the only natural progression he could see.
