Song Of The Day: ProJect Aspect - Custie Bear

Denver-native Jay Jaramillo is well known in the Colorado scene under the moniker ProJect Aspect, but with dope tracks like "Custie Bear"off his recently released album Automagically, he's clearly shown that he can cast a wider net. According to Jaramillo, "a lot of emotion goes into writing tracks for me. The biggest opportunity to express my rawest of feelings and lay them all out on the table. I write songs to perform them live. Nothing make my heart happier than playing live music and connecting with new people."

ProJect Aspect has performed alongside such artists as EOTO, MartyParty, VibeSquaD and NiT GriT, and at such festivals as Sonic Bloom, Wakarusa and Global Dance Festival.  Jaramillo is currently touring in San Francisco with back-to-back shows today and tomorrow at the Icon Lounge with JOBOT, and at Folsom with FreQ Nasty, Wick-It the Instigator, and Sleepyhead, before returning to Colorado for a New Years Eve run.

You can download "Custie Bear" and the whole Automagically album for free at 1320 Records, and check out all of ProJect Aspects's tunes right here.

Song Of The Day: Lotus - Massif

Image Courtesy of SCI Fidelity Records
The five-piece Philadelphia-based progressive electronic jam band Lotus have just released the first single off their upcoming album Build, "Massif." The album, their eighth overall, and first since 2011's self-titled Lotus, will be released on February 19th. In the 13 years since the bands origin in Indiana, the group's sound has traversed a broad array of influences, changing styles, and the adoption of vocals. Yet a crucial component to what defines Lotus sonically is their driving energy, apparent at every live performance, and certainly found here in this single.

Having recently announced their 2013 Winter Tour, Lotus is gearing up for New Years Eve at the Rams Head Live! in Baltimore, with shows in Chicago and Pittsburg. After a brief, and well earned break, the group will return with shows in Burlington, Boston, New York, leading all the way up to March where they will be performing back-to-back nights in Atlanta, GA, and will likely be ready to announce their Summer plans.

Song Of The Day: Major Lazer - Get Free

Image Courtesy of Downtown Music LLC
This past May, Major Lazer released the track "Get Free" featuring one of the singers from the Dirty Projectors, Amber Coffman, who is well known for her collaboration with Rusko on the track "Hold On." For Major Lazer, a group effort between producers Diplo and Switch, this track is a departure from their usual Dancehall, Moombahton, Reggae Hip Hop style. The track is hypnotizing, melodic, and peaceful, and the minimal, down-tempo production really highlights Coffman's incredible vocals.  The track was released by Downtown Music LLC on the 3-track Get Free EP. Major Lazer is currently on tour in Australia, and will be headed to Southeast Asia.

Song Of The Day: Daphni - Ye Ye (Alternative Electronic)

Caribou's Dan Snaith is about as versatile a musician as they come. "Ye Ye" is a track off Jialong, released October 9th on Merge Records under Snaith's newest musical project Daphni. The new name lets the listener know to expect something different from his previous works, and on that promise Jialong delivers. All in all, the project combines Snaith's technical ability with some of the more root elements of dance music. Each track has its own distinctive feel, but the differences are subtle. In particular, "Ye Ye" with it's hypnotic melodies, repetitious vocals, and dark-driving bass get your head bobbing right from the start, and demonstrate why many have praised this work as Snaith's "antidote to bad EDM." You can check out the entire album here.

New Video: Two Fingers (a.k.a. Amon Tobin) - Vengeance Rhthym

Brazilian ex-pat producer and artist Amon Tobin has just released the first video for the brand-new track "Vengeance Rhythm" from his most recent musical project Two Fingers

Two Fingers just released his debut full-length album Stunt Rhythms on Big Dada recordings on October 8th, and has had a slew of additional releases under the moniker including "Vengeance Rhythm," the most recent single, released on October 24th. An artist's blurb on Ninja Tunes website accompanying the releases states the following:

"Amon Tobin presents the next brutalist masterpiece wired up under his Two Fingers guise, "Vengeance Rhythm." A low-slung exercise in violence  brooding power and pure production smarts, in the words aof a recent Resident Adviser feature, it's "a little like dubstep built on an interplanetary scale."

The tune has been brought to life (and death) in a truly jaw-dropping video from stop-frame animator and director Chris Ullens. Ullens transforms a pile of toys, a love of super slo-mo explosions and a huge pile of mince into the funniest, most eye-popping and shocking exercise in animated ultra-violence since Oliver Postgate found out Bagpuss was cheating on him with Professor Yaffle."

Warning: This video is not for the feint of heart stuffed animal enthusiasts.

Secret Halloween Warehouse Party feat. RJD2, FreQ Nasty, Random Rab, Govinda and More (10/27)

Image Courtesy of Unicorn Meat NYC
With so much already going on in the weekends before and after Halloween this year, who would have thought there'd be any room for another big event? Well, when your event is a secret warehouse party in Brooklyn that features RDJ2, FreQ Nasty, Random Rab, David Starfire, Govinda, Dulce VitaSrikalogy and Dynasty Electric as well as fire dancers, artists and circus performers, you better make room!

Unicorn Meat NYC is hosting Illuminate at an as-of-yet unnamed warehouse in East Williamsburg (off the Grand stop) on October 27th. Having attended a similar event two years ago for Halloween I can say that this will certainly be something you don't want to miss, but definitely get there early, because the Fire Marshall will be eager to get there as well, and once they do they likely won't be letting anyone else in for some time.

Tickets are available here for $35, and the venue's locations will be released on the 27th to all ticket holders. If you're planning on going, buy your tickets in advance, because they won't be available at the door.
